Which Schema Markup Types Google Still Shows

2026-10-15

Which schema types still earn rich results in Google, which were limited or removed, and how to combine the ones you keep.

Schema markup is extra detail you add to a page so a search engine can read what the page is about. The format most sites use is JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data), a small block of JSON inside a script tag. Google can turn some of those blocks into rich results, the extra lines and images that sometimes appear under a search listing. It does not turn every type into a rich result, and it has dropped a few that used to show.

Quialo's Schema Markup Generator writes JSON-LD for 14 types, checks the fields Google documents, and can join several blocks into one graph. Nothing you type is uploaded.

Types that can still become rich results

These are the types Google still documents for a visible result, as long as the required fields are present and the page is eligible.

  • Product. A product snippet needs the product name, plus either an offer with a price and a currency, or an aggregate rating with a value and a review count. A missing price is the usual reason a product is ignored.
  • Breadcrumb. A path of at least two items can replace the raw URL in search. Every item except the last needs a full URL.
  • Recipe. A recipe result needs a name and an image. Ingredients and steps are what make the result useful.
  • Video. A video result needs a name, a thumbnail URL, and the date it was uploaded.
  • Event. An event needs a name, a start date, and a place or an online location.
  • Job posting. A job needs a title, a description, the date it was posted, the hiring organization, and either a location or a country for a remote role.
  • Software app. An app listing needs a name, a price (use 0 when it is free), and a rating with a count.

Article, organization, local business, person, and website markup still matter, but they do not promise a special row in search by themselves. Google uses the website name on the home page when it chooses the site name. Local business and organization details can support a knowledge panel. An article's headline, image, and dates can be used when the page is shown.

Types Google limited or removed

In 2023 Google limited frequently asked question rich results to well known government and health sites, and it removed HowTo rich results. A normal business or blog can still publish FAQ markup, and it will not hurt the page, but most sites should not expect an accordion in search.

Google also stopped using website markup to show a search box inside sitelinks. The website name itself is still read.

Dates, prices, and URLs

A date has to be ISO 8601, such as 2026-01-15 or 2026-01-15T09:30:00Z. A duration, such as a recipe time or a video length, looks like PT30M or PT1H15M. A price needs a number and a 3 letter currency code such as USD. URLs have to be absolute, starting with https://. A path like /about is ignored.

Combining several types

A technical page often needs more than one block: the website, the organization behind it, and the breadcrumb for the current URL. Those belong in one JSON-LD document with a single @context and an @graph list. Give each block a stable @id, and point related blocks at those ids. For example the website can name the organization as its publisher, and a web page can point at the website and the breadcrumb.

The generator does that when you add more than one block. You can also paste markup you already have and edit it. Copy the script tag, or download schema.json. To see what Google makes of it, open the Rich Results Test and paste the script there yourself. The tool does not send it.

If you are writing the rest of the head, the meta tag generator builds the title and description, and the JSON formatter will pretty print a block you already have. The same privacy rule applies to all three: the work happens in the browser. Why browser-based tools protect your data explains that in more detail.
