Pace Calculator

Enter a distance and total time to see your pace and speed.

Work out exactly how fast you ran. Enter your distance, choose kilometres or miles, and type your total time as HH:MM:SS. The calculator returns your pace per kilometre, your pace per mile, and your average speed in both km/h and mph, all updating live as you type.

How to use

  1. Enter your distance and pick the unit, either km or miles.
  2. Type your total time as HH:MM:SS. You can also use MM:SS or just seconds.
  3. Read your pace per km, pace per mile, and average speed in the results panel.
  4. Use Swap to switch the distance unit, or Reset to start over.

Examples

  • 10 km in 50:00 gives a pace of 5:00 per km, 8:03 per mile, and 12 km/h.
  • 5 miles in 40:00 gives a pace of 8:00 per mile, 4:58 per km, and 7.5 mph.
  • A marathon (42.195 km) in 4:00:00 gives a pace of 5:41 per km at 10.55 km/h.

FAQs

How do I enter my time?
Type it as HH:MM:SS, for example 1:05:30 for one hour, five minutes, and thirty seconds. Shorter forms work too: 50:00 is read as minutes and seconds, and a plain number like 90 is read as seconds.
What is the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is how long it takes to cover one unit of distance, shown as minutes and seconds per km or per mile. Speed is how much distance you cover per hour, shown in km/h or mph. The calculator gives you both.
How is pace per mile converted from kilometres?
One mile equals 1.609344 kilometres. The calculator converts your distance to both units, then divides your total time by each to produce a separate pace per km and per mile.
Can I use this for cycling or swimming?
Yes. The math is the same for any activity where you cover a distance over a time, so the pace and speed figures apply to cycling, swimming, or walking too.
Why do I get an error message?
The distance and time must both be positive numbers, and the time must be in a recognised format. Check for an empty field, a zero value, or minutes and seconds above 59 in a clock style time.
