FAQs

How do I find a percentage of a number?

Pick the percent of a number mode, enter the percentage and the number, and the calculator multiplies them. For example, 15 percent of 80 is (15 divided by 100) times 80, which equals 12.

How do I work out what percent one number is of another?

Use the is what percent mode. Enter the first number and the total, and the result is the first divided by the total, times 100. So 30 out of 120 is 25 percent.

How is percentage increase or decrease calculated?

In the change mode, the calculator takes the new value minus the original value, divides by the size of the original value, and multiplies by 100. A positive result is an increase and a negative result is a decrease.

Why does it say the number cannot be zero?

Finding what percent of zero something is, or the change from an original value of zero, both require dividing by zero, which has no defined answer. The calculator shows a clear message instead of an error.

Can I enter numbers with commas?

Yes. Grouped input such as 1,250 is accepted, and the commas are ignored when the value is read.

Does this work with any currency?

Yes. The calculator is currency agnostic and simply works with the numbers you enter, so you can use it for money, marks, weights, or anything else.
